Our winemaker, Josh Vince, says of the recognition:
“What a thrill that one of our more unique Italian varietals is garnering such interest and recognition across Australia. We are always honoured whenever praise is applied to one of our boutique wines.”
Vermentino, originally from coastal regions of Italy, has found a natural home in over 20 Australian wine regions, including Margaret River. Known for its citrus-driven profile, it often exhibits notes of lemon, grapefruit, and apple, with a distinctive saline minerality and an almond-like finish.
In the tasting, our Vermentino was selected by esteemed judges including James Scarcebrook, winemaker at Vino Intrepido; Andrew Wyse, founder of Cardwell Cellars; Clementine Bird, senior sommelier at Reine & La Rue; Brad Lucas, owner of Cult of the Vine; Chad Parkhill, Wine Buyer at Young Gun of Wine; and Callum Strong, wine educator at the University of Melbourne.
The judges praised our Vermentino for its vibrant citrus notes, subtle floral aromas, and a refreshing saline finish. They highlighted its balance and complexity, noting its suitability for pairing with a variety of dishes or enjoying on its own.
Parkhill described it as “a heady riot of ripe white peaches and yellow nectarines,” while Wyse noted “a beautifully expressive nose—lime, grapefruit, pear, and a touch of sea spray,” with a palate “awash with tropical fruit, jalapeño, and cool cucumber,” adding that it was “zesty, mouthwatering, and utterly margarita-like.”
Priced at $28 RRP, our Vermentino 2023 offers exceptional value for those seeking a wine that embodies both tradition and innovation.
