The Deep Dive, conducted by Young Gun of Wine, assembled a panel of eight esteemed wine professionals, including sommeliers, winemakers and industry experts, to blind taste a diverse range of Australian sauvignon blancs. Each panellist selected their top six wines, highlighting those that showcased exceptional quality and creativity.
Our 2022 Sauvignon Blanc was selected by judges Bonnie Spain, senior sommelier at Marmelo in Melbourne and Olive Keswick Gallagher, sommelier, Coda. Spain praised the wine for its “nice balance between creamy and fresh,” noting oak-driven notes of brioche, walnut shell and sweet almond, lifted by orange and lemon peel. She described it as a plush style that “doesn’t hide its sauvignon blanc character.” Gallagher echoed these sentiments, appreciating the wine’s harmonious integration of oak and fruit and its vibrant, refreshing finish.
This recognition is a testament to our commitment to crafting wines that reflect the unique terroir of Margaret River while embracing innovative winemaking techniques. Our approach to sauvignon blanc involves careful oak maturation and lees contact, resulting in a wine that balances richness with freshness and complexity with approachability.
“To have one of our wines selected in such a blind panel tasting is a testament to the hard work that goes in to crafting boutique wines that both respect the varietal but also push the boundaries of expectation. We are thrilled to have been in two judges top six”, Altair Estate Winemaker, Josh Vince.
We extend our gratitude to the judges and the Young Gun of Wine team for this honour. Their dedication to exploring and celebrating the diversity of Australian wine inspires us to continue pushing boundaries and striving for excellence.
